The dissipater is a dish like tray which sits on top of the compressor motor,
or in close proximity to it. The only function for this item is to catch the
water from the refrigeration unit, which is channeled down via an outlet pipe
when it defrosts. The heat from the compressor dissipates the moisture in the
tray which is then left dry until the next defrost cycle. These dishes vary in size,
shape and material depending on the compressor used and appliance manufacturer.
